Bathroom

It has been known for a long time that fashion and certain trends like to return, often even after many years. It seems, however, that retro style has been triumphant for many years, both in fashion and in interior design. It is appreciated both by people who professionally design space in houses or flats and by their owners who want to arrange their four corners in a unique style.

Retro is perfect for living rooms or bedrooms, but it is becoming increasingly popular to introduce this style also in the kitchen and bathroom. But is it really possible to create such a pre-war atmosphere in our bathroom? Of course it is! Here are a few tips on how to achieve this.

Retro bathroom - planning and preparation

Planning is a key element of any type of interior design, so in the case of retro style we should also take some time to think about all the details. It should be remembered that the retro style is characterized by spaciousness, because it is possible to show all the advantages of individual elements of the decor. When it comes to bathrooms, too, it's best to have a larger space, such as a bathing room. However, if we have a smaller room, nothing is lost. One should only limit oneself to introducing small but strong retro-style accents.

Mandatory retro-style bathroom facilities

What is the characteristic feature of retro style? Of course, above all, it is a huge elegance and chic, also in relation to the bathroom. When furnishing this room we must therefore forget about all kitschy accessories, which are often conspicuous to us. The basis for this is undoubtedly a free-standing bathtub, preferably on decorative, silver-plated or gold-plated legs. Of course, you need to match this with a stylised toilet and washbasin. It's also worth looking for a retro style battery! They will work well with traditional taps, but it is not necessary. The whole should be complemented by perfectly finished furniture, preferably wooden, and a large mirror in a decorated, wooden frame, of course also gold-plated.

Colours in the retro bathroom

The basic colours that almost immediately bring to mind the 1920s and 1930s are, of course, dirty gold and old silver. Copper also fits perfectly into the climate, but it is worth remembering about additional elements in ecru color, which in such a combination will resemble an extremely elegant ivory. When it comes to the colour of the walls or tiles, the basic colour is white, which in retro style is often combined with black. We immediately think of the characteristic chessboard floors, which still look fantastic in a retro bathroom today. It is also worth considering colours such as ecru, beige and warm brown. People who like stronger colors, such as navy blue or turquoise, should break their intensity with the aforementioned white.

Retro-style accessories

Often very small details determine the overall character of a retro-style bathroom. In addition to all the large elements that have already been mentioned, it is therefore necessary to take care of a little less conspicuous details that will make everything work together. Let's not leave it to chance, because, contrary to appearances, such accents may disturb the character of the bathroom, on which we worked carefully. What exactly is it about? For example, to buy a stylized soap dish, or if you prefer a soap dispenser, which will also match the cup or its holder. Also very important are the elements at the toilet, such as the toilet paper holder and brush. They should also fit into the character of our bathroom. In the bathroom, it's also a good idea to set up a stylish, massive chair. It is very functional, but also makes the whole interior seem more elegant and actually resembles a chic bathing salon.

Lighting in the retro bathroom

When furnishing a retro style bathroom we must remember not to spoil the effect of modern elements. These include, for example, blinds or roller blinds in windows. Instead, we should choose delicate and airy silk curtains. In the case of artificial lighting, it is worth looking for sconces that will be stylized on the old design, so that they will fit perfectly into the character of the retro bathroom. Large scented candles must also be a must. In search of new elements of interior furnishing, we can use not only completely new products, but also those found in the attic or old age fairs. Sometimes one visit to such a place is enough to get really unique items, perfectly complementing our arrangement. More and more people are choosing to furnish their flats in retro style. However, before we make a final decision, it is worth considering this carefully. This type of solution must suit our taste, not be dictated by the current fashion.
